When I began my career in dermatology, I was struck by how often our patients’ skin told stories that went far beyond the surface. A rash that pointed to a failing heart. A genetic condition written into both the skin and the myocardium. Patterns that no single specialty, working in isolation, would ever fully understand. My hope is that this book helps clinicians look beyond their own specialty — to ask, when they see a skin sign, what else might it be telling us? And to answer that question before it is too late for the patient

Skin and the Heart grew out of that conviction — that the boundaries we draw between medical disciplines are sometimes more administrative than biological. Together with my co-editors, Prof. Dedee F. Murrell and Dr. James Ottonu, we brought together dermatologists and cardiologists from across the world to map the connections between these two organs: the one we see, and the one we cannot.
